About Ayenka Holdings

Ayenka Holdings (Pvt) Ltd is a Sri Lankan Investment Company founded in 2016 by Prabhash Subasinghe. Affiliate companies of Ayenka Holdings are Global Rubber Industries, Global Sea Foods and Global Fisheries – companies that have proved their effectiveness via continued growth and cutting edge leadership in their spheres of business, over the course of two decades. In addition to these core companies, Ayenka Holdings boasts of a large and diverse portfolio of investments in the Colombo Stock Exchange. Primarily amongst these stakes are those in Insurance, Banking, Renewable energy and Real-estate.

The first investment of Ayenka Holdings is in a luxury real estate project in the Maldives. The flagship project – Aqua Vita Residencies (www.aquavita.mv). With Ayenka Holdings foray into its first real estate project in The Maldives, plans are afoot for more such investments in regional markets.

Prabhash Subasinghe, an ambitious and astute entrepreneur, with a degree in Applied Economics and Business from the prestigious Ivy League Cornell University in the USA. He partook in several programs at the Harvard Business School, INSEAD, The Center for Creative Leadership [CCL] at Colorado Springs, and at Singularity University in Silicon Valley.

Subasinghe invested in the seafood industry in 1999 through the company Global Sea Foods, and the year 2002 saw him venturing into the rubber export market by establishing Global Rubber Industries. Today, both companies have become global powerhouses in the industries in which they operate.

Ceylinco Insurance PLC

Ayenka holdings and its affiliate companies are the largest shareholders of Ceylinco Insurance. Ceylinco Insurance commenced business on the 14th of January 1988 and has since grown and flourished in the spheres of Life and General Insurance.

Today, Ceylinco is the leading insurance company in Sri Lanka, with the largest network of branches and agents in the insurance industry and a Market Capital of USD 275 Million. Ceylinco aims to become the leading provider of protection and financial security in Sri Lanka and international markets.

Sanasa Development Bank

Ayenka Holdings has invested in the largest microfinance bank in Sri Lanka, the Sanasa Development Bank; furthermore, Subasinghe the Managing Director of Ayenka Holdings holds the position of Director at SANASA Development Bank PLC (SDB).

SANASA Development Bank with an Asset Base of USD 378 Million, is a licensed specialized bank and the apex financial institution of the SANASA Federation, the umbrella organization of over 8000 island-wide primary co-operative societies. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka the Bank is a public quoted company with limited liability, incorporated under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982 and re-registered under the Companies Act No.7 of 2007. It is also registered as a Licensed Specialized Bank by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, under the Banking Act No.30 of 1988 (as amended by the Banking Amendment Act of 1995) and an approved Credit Agency under the Mortgage Act No. 06 of 1949 as amended by the Mortgage (amendment) Act No. 53 of 1949 and Trust Receipt Ordinance No. 12 of 1947.

NPH Development Pvt Ltd is a Real-Estate Developer in Maldives, currently developing a luxury apartment complex– Aqua Vita in Hulhumale consisting of 416 apartments at a total cost of over 80 Million US Dollars.

Sampath Bank PLC

Ayenka Holdings holds a stake of 10% at Sampath Bank.
Incorporated in 1987, Sampath Bank PLC was the third Sri Lankan private commercial bank in the country at the time. Since then the bank has continued to invest in further improving their capacity and capabilities.

Sampath Bank today is ranked among the top private banks in the country, with a base of over 2.9 Million customers and 235 branches across the Island. Its current Market Capitalization is valued at USD 377 Million, with an annual Turnover of USD 560 Million. This points to the strength and stability of the bank’s strategy, business model and governance structure. With 4,189 employees, Sampath Bank is considered to be one of the largest employers among private banks in Sri Lanka.

Ayenka Holdings holds a 18% stake at Resus Energy.
Resus Energy, is a renewable energy investment and development company in Sri Lanka with a Market Capitalization of USD 10 Million, strives to optimally use the abundant renewable energy resources in Sri Lanka through strategically placed renewable energy projects, which generate environmentally sustainable electricity for the main grid.

Prabhash Subasinghe becomes 2nd largest shareholder at Sampath Bank

Business leader Prabhash Subasinghe has doubled his stake in Sampath Bank PLC to 10% by this week from end-December, thereby becoming the second largest shareholder. The holding is through Ayenka Holdings Ltd., owned by Subasinghe. On Tuesday, 4 million shares of Sampath traded for Rs. 624 million, his broker CTCLSA confirmed via a disclosure that by 3 March, Ayenka Holdings and related parties hold 38.14 million shares of Sampath Bank, which is equivalent to 10%. As at 31 December 2020, Ayenka held around 5.37% or 20.49 million Sampath Bank shares. It has been progressively upping its stake at Sampath. As at end-September 2020, the holding was only 18.26 million shares or 4.79%. Prabhash entered Sampath Bank in June 2019 after unsubscribed Rights Issue shares were placed with him at Rs. 136 each. With the latest purchase Ayenka and related parties holding is above the previous second largest shareholder the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), which as at 31 December 2020 held 38 million shares or 9.97%. Dhammika Perera-controlled Vallibel One PLC is the largest shareholder with 15% stake. The fourth largest is Indra Silva with 8.2% and Indra Traders Managing Director Rushanka Silva is the Deputy Chairman at Sampath Bank. Ayenka is an investment company founded in 2016 and its affiliate include Global Rubber Industries, Global Sea Foods and Global Fisheries all owned by Subasinghe. Ayenka Holdings boasts of a large and diverse portfolio of investments in the Colombo Stock Exchange. Primarily amongst these stakes are those in Insurance, Banking, Renewable energy and Real-estate. Prabhash holds near 30% stake in Ceylinco Insurance and 15% stake SDB bank. The hike in Sampath Bank stake reflects Prabhash’s confidence in the bank as well as overall prospects, whilst several foreign funds have been exiting Sampath Bank in recent week. As at end 2020 foreign holding of Sampath Bank shares was 60.23 million and this has halved to 30.8 million by yesterday. Sampath Bank has been top of net foreign selling in recent weeks. Since last week of January post announcement of a surprising share split with share price up, foreigners have been exiting Sampath Bank. The net selling is around Rs. 5 billion between last week of January and yesterday.

Sampath Bank closed yesterday at Rs. 151, down by Rs. 3.50 from Tuesday with just 0.3 million shares traded. Sampath's 52-week highest share price was Rs. 250 and the lowest was Rs. 96. On 27 January Sampath announced a one into three share sub division.
